How it all started... (click on the pictures to enlarge, on the names for more information))

It started as so many with a setter without a pedigree, collected from a farm where it used to potter  about between the cows at the age of ten weeks.
Used to nothing at all, not having had any vaccination, completely nothing at all. However she never was ill and reached the age of 13 years.
That was 26 years ago.
Then one joins the Irish Setter Club and sees all the other setters, then you notice the difference with our setter, though sweet as she was
Quite soon the decision was made, this time a setter with a pedigree.
Through the Breeders's association we got in touch  with Mrs.van de Berk at the Ludmilla Kennels where we got
Ultimo Bo Tanner of Ludmilla ( Lowfield Brigadoon X Gentle Girly Winter van Ludmilla )

We had the intention to let Bo have our first litter of pups but unfortunately it turned out she had HD (hip problems). She herself
didn't suffer at all from this and she even was the first setter in the Netherlands to pass the endurance test !!! ( 20 kilometers alongside a bike)
So we went searching for another bitch and contacted Piet Roks of the Hunter's Home Kennels, from where we could bring home
Whispering Ravel of The Hunter's Home ( Shanwick Irishman X Fayrray Blazing Brasil )
In 1995 this bitch gave us for the for the first time a litter . The pup's father was Danaway Dante. From this litter we kept
Sunflame Ayres Summer Breeze.
Meanwhile our pedigree less Irish Fatimah had died and we brought New Linacre Promising Britt ( New Linacre Joker X Wendover Rhea ) from Roland Theis (of Luxembourg)

She and Now or never of The red Empire from the family van der Valk, living at Berkel and Roderijs, gave us a second litter. Of this litter we kept the bitch
Blossom (Sunflame Blooming Red Blossom).
Unfortunately the ladies were not of the kind to get good remarks on shows, but as very sweet pets they won their spurs as actors and photographic models.
They love to run around the horses and goats.
Then the first English Setter presented itself, a long cherished wish. She was an Orange Belton bitch, named Flame from the family Blomme, of the Norcroft Kennel.

Her parents are Champ.Upperwood Classical Gold X Champ.Norcroft Temptation.
Flame performs excellently at shows in Holland and abroad. ( Belg.W'02, Bdsgr.'03, Lux,VDH,Dutch,Dutch Veteran and Hungarian Champion ).
Being infected with " the spotted virus " we chose to pursue another English setter, now from the the Upperwood Kennels, where we found Upperwood Mystic Moonlight
( Upperwood Sunburnt X Symphony Star at Upperwood )  in February  2002

We named her Luna.
At the moment she is the record holder of being best English Setter and also Multi Champion in Holland and abroad.
In 2005 , out of the combination  Bournhouse Royal Colours X Upperwood Mystic Moonlight "Luna", we kept Sunflame Coloured Peaces of a Dream
" Madelief "
Hopefully we will have a litter from her end 2008, beginning 2009.
Since we thought one puppy in the house is too quite ...we decided to buy another Irish Setter pup !
Swedish Design van het Adelaarsvaren " Praline "
Bred by Ingrid Silvias, out of the combination Copper's Prince of Thieves X Limited Edition van het Adelaarsvaren.

This was the present and past of the Sunflame Kennel !!!
